I love the beach

I always have. I've been coming here to this beach as long as I can remember, and no matter what age I was (am), or mood, there is always something that fits just right about this place. And, it is really wonderful to see the boys loving the place as much as me.

Yesterday we went out to the beach. It was a cloudy day and it was cool enough that they didn't feel like playing in the water. There they were, out on the beach with nothing but miles of sand and two buckets. No WII, computer games, TV, toys, etc. No problem, they had a blast as always. There was bull kelp to collect and their gas vacuoles to pop, worn logs to climb, sea shells to examine and stuff into pockets, races to be won, and lots of digging to be done.

After 3 1/2 hours of play, when I suggested we go in and have dinner, I had mutiny on my hands. They managed another half hour before I got them to head out. And, somehow they extracted a promise to get to stay longer next time from me. I'll have to remember snacks and water for today's visit.

beachin' it

It has been a fun summer so far, and busy, especially for the boys. They both had camps - Jamey's was a computer game programming one, while Arthur took a Lego Robotics camp. Then, with Disneyland, fairs, bbqs, company, etc, we have had a lot going on.

So it is with a light heart we took off to the beach this week for some laid back fun. Only to have poor little Jamey develop a head cold on our way here, and have it in full bloom yesterday. He has been such a good sport about it though. Plenty of good books to read, games to play, and of course being sick at the beach house is preferable to any other place on Earth according to Jamey (although he did amend he hasn't been to Sweden or Hawaii yet, so he might change his mind).

I think another good day of rest today and he will be fit to tackle the beach. The weather here has been cool and a touch drizzly so Jamey timed his cold perfectly. When the sun comes, we will all be ready!

farm breakfast

I enjoy rummaging through the gardens and love eating freshly picked produce. Here is my breakfast of the day : end of season strawberries and fresh farm eggs. Nothing beats the freshness of a farm breakfast.
