Grumpy Z Cracks Up Arthur

Recently when visiting this post on Great Grumpy Z's blog, Arthur went into peals of laughter over the great shirt Grandma had purchased for him. Luckily, I had the video camera close by and was able to catch some of the laughter.

Snow again

It snowed this weekend about 1/2 inch, and was melted off by Monday. And this morning, we wake up to find it snowing again. It has been coming down nonstop and at a fast rate. The kids are enjoying staying home for the day and are hoping for even more snow to keep them home tomorrow. Whether it lasts or not, right now it looks very beautiful outside.

Laundry Room Tiled

James and I tackled tiling the laundry room this past weekend. With the help of Grandma Jill who watched the kids, we cut and laid the tile, and then finished grouting and sealing it over the week. James moved the washer and dryer back in this morning before leaving for work and we are catching up on a week of laundry. I think I will give it another coat of sealer to even out the floor some more, but man, am I glad to have this project done!!! This weekend we will start tiling our bedroom. The boys are very excited about us "camping out" in the living room during this process and have magnanimously decided to do their part by joining James and I in the great camp out.

I love the post office

oh yes indeedy do! Today when I swung by, I found my first order of the new year's gardening season had arrived. I have been drooling over my new seeds and I keep going back to them and daydreaming about the greatness that we are going to accomplish together. Finally, it had reached such epic proportions in my mind that not being able to contain myself I decided that this mail delivery must be blogged!

On another note, I am going to attempt to build myself some inexpensive grow light braces to put over my indoor starts. I have seen many in the stores but they are either not what I want, or too expensive. I have an idea involving white plastic pipe with 3 way pipe holders, thin chain, and grow light holders (yeah yeah - it's obvious I don't know what this stuff is called). When I get it built, I'll post the how-to in case any of you might be interested.

Trampin is the best

On our first sunny day since the snow and floods, the boys were back on the trampoline. This seems to be consistently their favorite destination. When I asked them close to dusk if they wanted to come in, I was told "No! Trampin is the best!".

I like how these photos show clarity of a captured second, along with the blurriness of motion.

Last painted desk complete

well, sort of. I still have to varnish it and attach this top to the desk body - but the painting itself is complete. I really like getting all these projects done, especially knowing that when the garden season is fully upon us all my indoor projects will be promptly dumped.

This desk will be a gift for my niece Abby - shh...don't tell her! (Luckily she is too little to read my blog so I can get away with this for the moment)

Painted lap desks

I painted each boy a lap desk. Above is Arthur's who is currently nuts over bunnies. Below is Jamey's - a blueberry fairy. These were very satisfying to do and I am working on a third one with a girl butterfly fairy on it. I'll show pics when I complete it.

Garden greens that made through winter

After 2 feet of snow, followed by frost I was amazed to find that I had plants in my raised bed that survived! Below in order is spinach, parsley, and lots of cilantro that made it and are ready for harvesting. Looks like we will be having fresh greens in January. Yummy!

PJ Bottoms

Thanks to Theresa helping me, I was able to sew the boys new pajama bottoms. I was thrilled that they turned out. The boys are happy with them, but are now asking for me to sew matching tops. Argh - sleeves and collars? That may take me a while to figure out. Here they are modeling their new sleepwear.

Visit with the Northern Folk

We visited with Momsie, Popsie, Uncle Lief, Auntie Angie, Abby, Emma, and Great Grandpa and Grandma this past weekend for an after Christmas get together. Much fun was had with visiting, playing, presents, etc. We came home to find another 4-6 inches of snow had fallen on our place making the boys dream of yet another "snow day". Luckily, school was delayed by 2 hours so the boys caught up on a bit more sleep after their fun weekend.
Arthur and Emma are working on the structural integrity of a Lincoln Log sculpture.

Grandpa teaching Jamey how to play badminton backgammon while Abby observes.

Update: Everyone who commented about my usage of badminton has passed the test!

Army of Santas

As part of my "project cleanup" goal, I got these Santas ready for Christmas this year. These cute little guys started looking a bit like a North Pole militia when I put them all together. They definitely do better being separate.
